New Horizons for Iconic Margate B&B as Somerville Hotel Finds a New Owner

In an exciting turn of events, the seafront gem, Somerville Hotel at 9 Canterbury Road in Margate, has officially changed hands after going under the hammer at Clive Emson’s property auction. The four-storey, end-terrace freehold property, positioned at the corner of Station Road and Canterbury Road, has been successfully operating as a bed and breakfast for numerous years and recently found a new proprietor at Clive Emson’s sixth auction of the year.

The gavel came down at £480,000 during the firm’s dynamic auction, marking the latest evolution for this iconic establishment. Auction appraiser Jon Rimmer noted the property’s potential for transformation, citing the possibility of conversion, contingent upon obtaining all necessary consents.

Rimmer highlighted the property’s prime location with uninterrupted sea views from the front, emphasising its prominence on the Margate seafront. The Somerville Hotel boasts eight guest bedrooms and a one-bedroom manager’s accommodation, making it a versatile property with various possibilities for the new owner.

This sale signifies not only a change in ownership but also the potential for exciting developments in the future. Whether the new owner decides to continue the successful B&B tradition or explores alternative prospects, the Somerville Hotel’s legacy is poised to enter a new chapter. As Margate continues to evolve, this transaction adds another layer to the town’s dynamic property landscape. Stay tuned for more updates on the transformation of this iconic Margate establishment.
